Mojisola Meranda
Mojisola Lasbat Meranda is a distinguished Nigerian politician and the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Born on August 16, 1980, into the royal families of Ojora, Aromire, Onitana, Oloto, and Oniru, her lineage boasts a strong political heritage. Her late father, Chief T.A. Lawal Akapo, was a legislator and later became the Ojora of Lagos.
She attended Randle Primary School and later Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School and Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School. Meranda earned a degree in Public Administration from Lagos State University in 2013 and pursued further studies at the University of Lagos.
She worked as a personal assistant in the Lagos State government and held positions in the private sector, including as a procurement manager at Cirrus Nigeria Limited.
She has represented Apapa Constituency I since 2015, demonstrating a strong commitment to legislative excellence and public service. Her educational journey began at St. Charles Nursery and Primary School, followed by Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School and Ansar-ud-Deen Secondary School.
Before her historic appointment as Speaker, she served as the Chief Whip of the Assembly and chaired several key committees, including Ethics, Protocols, and Privileges, as well as the Central Business District.
On January 13, 2025, she was sworn in as Speaker following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, making history as the first woman to hold this position in Lagos State. Beyond politics, Meranda has deep-rooted ties to Lagos’s traditional leadership, coming from the Ojora, Aromire, Onitana, Oloto, and Oniru royal families. Her leadership continues to pave the way for women in governance, serving as an inspiration for future generations of female leaders in Nigeria.
