Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf
Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, born in 1976, is a distinguished Nigerian pharmacist, politician, and philanthropist. She completed her primary education at Ansar-ud-deen Primary School and her secondary education at Seventh Day Adventist Grammar School, both in Ile-Ife. She earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Lagos in 2006 and later obtained a Doctor of Social Work from the Institute of Social Work of Nigeria.
Akinbile-Yussuf began her political career as a Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Rural, and Social Development in the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area from 2012 to 2014. She served as the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development (2015–2017) and Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment (2018–2019). In 2019, she was appointed Commissioner for Home Affairs before transitioning to her current role as Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in January 2020.
In her current role, Akinbile-Yussuf has been instrumental in promoting Lagos State as a premier tourism destination, implementing initiatives that showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant arts scene.
Her efforts have significantly contributed to economic growth by attracting both domestic and international tourists, thereby boosting local businesses and creating employment opportunities. Her leadership exemplifies the growing influence of women in Nigerian governance, aligning with the broader movement of women driving economic development and policy reforms across the nation.
