Amina Ahmed El-Imam
Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam is a distinguished Nigerian microbiologist and academic, currently serving as a Reader in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Ilorin. She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and earned her Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham, UK, as a beneficiary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund’s Academic Training Scholarship in 2012.
Specializing in food and industrial microbiology, Dr. El-Imam’s research initially focused on food preservation and the microorganisms responsible for spoilage in traditional foods. Her work has evolved to include the bioconversion of plant biomass into biofuels and biochemicals through fermentation processes. She has contributed to over 47 publications, reflecting her active engagement in advancing microbiological research.
Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam was appointed as the Commissioner for Health in Kwara State, Nigeria, on September 5, 2023, by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. In her role, she has actively engaged in various health initiatives, including medical outreach programs across the state and visits to healthcare facilities such as the Offa Specialist Hospital.
She also addressed public health students at Al-Hikmah University during the launch of the EU-funded Strengthening Access to Health Care initiative in Kwara State. Dr. El-Imam has been recognized for her contributions to healthcare improvement, receiving an Award of Excellence from the Kwara State Ministry of Health. Her leadership reflects a commitment to enhancing healthcare services and public health education in the region.
